What it catches

Ombly looks for: Card numbers, Bank accounts, IBANs, Social Security numbers, National Insurance numbers, Names, Addresses, Emails, Phone numbers, File paths, Aadhaar & PAN, Your own patterns.
Number formats are checked, not just matched. Card numbers, IBANs and Aadhaar numbers must pass their checksums, so random digits don't get flagged.

Does my document leave my computer?
No. Ombly does all its work on your own machine. For companies, it runs on servers you control, inside your own network.
How is this different from drawing a black box?
A box drawn in most PDF editors sits on top of the text, which is still in the file and can be copied, searched or recovered. Ombly creates a brand-new file made only of page images, with the private parts painted out.
Can Ombly miss something?
Yes, any automatic detection can. That's why Ombly asks you to review every suggestion, lets you draw your own boxes and search for words, and shows you the final file before you share it.
Which files does it work with?
PDF, Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), PowerPoint (PPTX), plain text, and images or scans (JPEG, PNG, TIFF). Scanned pages are read with on-device OCR.
Which details does it look for?
Card and bank account numbers, IBANs, US Social Security numbers, UK National Insurance numbers, names, addresses, emails and phone numbers, plus Indian IDs like Aadhaar and PAN. It also catches file paths printed in headers and footers, which can reveal usernames and client folders. Teams add their own patterns for case, matter or invoice numbers and other national IDs.
